Using statistics And Player Notes

People all over the world are playing Texas Hold'em, and most of them are playing it on the Internet. If you're a Texas Hold'em player, you have probably already discovered the fun and convenience of playing online. If you're ready to take your game to the next level, here are some winning strategies that will help you get there.

A great strategy for winning at Internet Texas Hold'em is selectivity. Be selective about the table you play on. When you are playing in a live casino, you often have to take the first table that opens up if you want to get in any playing time. Online however, there is usually a very short wait to get onto a variety of tables. Since you're already at home, you've got plenty of time to wait anyway. Open up a few tables and watch the games. Many poker sites give you statistics on things like the size of the average pot and how many hands are being played per hour. Big pots usually mean loose, action games, which can be very profitable for a knowledgeable player.

A strategy that goes hand in hand with this one is keeping track of your opponents. Internet poker sites have a note taking feature, which means you can write down your observations and link those notes to the player, so every time you encounter that player you can be reminded of how they play with a quick click of the mouse. If you know certain players to be weak, add them to your buddy list. The buddy list is a list of players whom the computer will alert you are online. You can combine this strategy with your table selectivity and look for games with more than one player whom you know to be weak.

Notes don't necessarily tell you that a player is weak. They might remind you that a certain player will play any ace, or always bets on the flop after raising before the flop, or tends to act strong when they are weak. Any observable patterns that you can ascribe to a player will give you the edge. In a live poker session, you may generate opinions about a player, but may well not remember them if you encounter the same player a month later. Online, the notes are always there to help you refresh your memory. Remember that a lot of players are new to Texas Hold'em, so be prepared to update these notes if it becomes apparent that an opponent has improved their game or changed their basic strategy since the last time that you faced them.

Of course there are many more winning strategies than the ones mentioned above, which is what makes Internet Texas Hold'em such a complex and wonderful game. However, you now have two strategies, which, if implemented correctly, are bound to help bring your game up so that you can have more successful and more enjoyable sessions.
