Overview:
PokerRoom
was one of the first online poker sites on the
web, and as such - concreted it's place in the
online poker world. PokerRoom offers all of its
games without any download required. This no-download
feature means that you can play on any platform
(including the often-ignored Mac and Linux computers)
via the web from anywhere. While you don't need
to install software, they still have a downloadable
client for Windows users, which offers slightly
smoother and better looking gameplay.
PokerRoom's software
is very nice. The lobby is well layed out and
offers a variety of games like Hold'em, Omaha,
7 Card Stud, and 5 Card Draw. Clicking on any
room gives you average pot, players, and their
cash. PokerRoom also offers players the ability
to create private ring game tables. Any of their
poker games at virtually any stakes level may
be easily set up quickly through their config
interface.

The inside
of the room has excellent graphics and easy to
follow action. I like the speach bubbles declaring
the players action, and the sound effects aren't
over the top. Chip stacks are clearly marked,
and each of your options (Fold, Call, Raise, etc)
has an F key attached to it, so I don't even need
to touch the mouse. That's an option that's really
missing in other poker sites.

Tournaments
and Promotions:
PokerRoom has a number of
great promotions. One promotion is a Royal Flush
bonus. If a player hits a royal flush using at
least one hole card, he or she will win a cash
prize of 100 times the big blind of the stakes
of the game (maximum prize of $5,000). So for
a $2-$4 game, the payout would be $200.
Another interesting promotion
is their "Grand Tournament," which is
a $1,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em event. There
is no entry fee to this tournament (Poker Room
will not charge an extra fee in addition to the
buy-in like most poker rooms do). For most tournaments
that have a $1,000 buy-in, the poker room charges
about a $60 entry.
In addition to poker,
you can convert your account money into “Casino
Chips” and play other casino games with
them... making the site flexible.
Conclusion:
I love PokerRoom. I played
there for ages before I moved on to the site I
play at now (our
top rated site), so I may be a little biased.
The software is solid and looks good. It makes
playing poker a fun past time. The option to play
their Java client is great when you're away from
your home computer... and their website is well
designed and easy to comprehend. Overall - I'd
highly recommend PokerRoom to anyone.
